Roadside ditches

Sustainability of ditches and gutters :

The size of the ditch should be calculated according to hydraulics estimation, but engineer should also determine what is the best ditch for his road, sometimes it is not easy to find the best one, and to have data and information about the site is primordial in the decision.

Using civil 3d for Watershed calculations

image

You can use Google earth to import a surface than calculate the area of a watershed, you need only to make some changes to the surface style, but as we know this method it can only be used for a preliminary analyses or study, because Google earth data not accurate enough for a final result.

Assembly example 1: For most urban undivided roads

This assembly seeks to address street design within urban areas; the followings are some overall tips:

-          Safety, Safety, Safety and cycling-friendly.
-          Your design should be influenced by the type of place and driver behavior in which the street is located.
-          The most difficult is to balance the needs of all users.
-          You should take care of the attractiveness and the beauty of your design (attract stakeholder).
-          Forecasting traffic could be one of the complex things in the urban areas.
-          Effectiveness in cost and efficiency.
-          Priority to pedestrians and cyclists.
-          Easy access to public transport
-          Motor vehicles has come to dominate our urban areas, streets are managed and used promotes or discourages a sense of community, deciding where to make a car parks, garden space, commercial or residential aria …  is very primordial.
-          Using speed limitation range of 30 to 50 Km/h, and the speed ramps.
-          Accessibility, including people with disabilities.

Why we need to use Data Shortcuts Folders ?

The benefit of using shortcuts in Civil 3d is to improve the performance of the software, by using the surface and the alignment as a shortcut you will be amazed how fast civil 3d is comparing to using everything in the same file.
In addition you can organize your team of engineers to work with the software in the most efficient way especially the complex model would require breaking objects out into individual files, in addition using this method makes Civil 3d perform faster.

First Click on the manage tab and choose new shortcuts folder
Civil3d-Pro
Name your folder
Civil3d-Pro
You will have in your PC a set of folders where you can find XML files connecting to your Civil 3d data

Using Civil 3d in road design

image
I start working by using another small French software PISTE 5.06, it is small and simple comparing to civil 3d but it is what we use in our road design in the most of our projects. The only problem with this software is that no update anymore (outdated). For that I learn to use Civil 3d, it is much developed and illustrative software.
